How Far Will It Go? We Can Only Wait. And Wait. And Wait…..

The excerpt has a very clear explanation on what is a blog, yes that is obvious “is a journal or log that appears on a Web site.”(Volume 55 number 2) Sarah Boxer pretty much explains throughout the whole piece that a blog is more than just a journal it is a, free space for every one with access to a computer. For me a blog besides freedom and expression a blog has power. After I read this excerpt I realized how much power a blog can have not only to what Sarah Boxer said “In 2002 it was bloggers like Joshua Micah Marshall of Talking Points Memo and Atrios (a pseudonym) of Eschaton who first publicized Trent Lott's racist remarks at Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday party, leading to Lott's resignation as Senate majority leader.” (Volume 55 number 2)This is a strong proof of what a blog can do, it can lead to government resignations either by gossip or by truth and a blog can’t be stopped it is a free place and it can lead to fame or destruction.

Currently, a very strong proof we have is the recently famous blog “Julie/Julia project” which became an opportunity for Julie Powell to write a best-selling biography, what now is a major motion picture. The blog is about a woman who learned to cook from a very recognized cookbook written by the veteran cook Julia Child Mastering the Arts of French Cooking. Julie Powell followed the 536 recipes in 365 days. I came across this particular blog not because of the movie or the book but because my mom. My mom is a cook, and she is always searching for information on new culinary advances or cookbooks, she was very familiar with the MtAoFC and in one of those searches she found Julie Powell’s blog she took much interest in, it was 3 months later that we found out about the success of the book and the Hollywood movie . Julie Powell on her first entree did not know what to expect.
“The Book:
"Mastering the Art of French Cooking". First edition, 1961. Louisette Berthole. Simone Beck. And, of course, Julia Child. The book that launched a thousand celebrity chefs. Julia Child taught America to cook, and to eat. It’s forty years later. Today we think we live in the world Alice Waters made, but beneath it all is Julia, 90 if she's a day, and no one can touch her.
The Contender:
Government drone by day, renegade foodie by night. Too old for theatre, too young for children, and too bitter for anything else, Julie Powell was looking for a challenge. And in the Julie/Julia project she found it. Risking her marriage, her job, and her cats’ well-being, she has signed on for a deranged assignment.
365 days. 536 recipes. One girl and a crappy outer borough kitchen.
How far will it go? We can only wait. And wait. And wait…..” (http://blogs.salon.com/0001399/2002/08/25.html Julie Powell first entry August 26 2002)
After seven years, she became successful and well known to some people, all this because of her blog. This is a perfect example of what a blog can do. It can make you famous, it can get you a good grade in school… it can get you in trouble, it can get you through unimaginable things. You never know what writing this blog can do. Maybe I will become famous for a blog or something like it, maybe no one will ever read my blog? All I can say is “How far will it go? We can Only wait . And wait. And wait…”(Julie/Julia project)
